Hole 9

The finishing hole at Basset Down has a large hill sitting in the middle of the fairway at driving distance. Rising sharply from the tee, and then falling sharply the other side, it provides a real tester to end the round. There are bunkers left and right to be negotiated from the tee. It requires a drive of over 235 yards to reach the top of the hill where there is a downhill approach with a lovely view of the clubhouse waiting. The green has bunkers left and right to protect it, and has some very subtle borrows to conquer. The last tee shot of the round needs to avoid two fairway bunkers over either side of the fairway. The longer hitter will be hoping to make the brow of the hill to give a clear view of a downhill second shot played towards the backdrop of the clubhouse. However, most players will have to settle for a position on the upslope leaving a slightly blind second shot which should favour the left hand side of the fairway. Any pitch or chip shot to this green is always tricky, with the green sitting like an up turned saucer.  A strong finishing hole, anyone recording a 4 will be very pleased with themselves.
