Member Update – Important Notices on General Play and Competitions
Please take a few minutes to read the following important updates concerning general play cards, scoring procedures and competition eligibility. These reminders are essential to ensure fair play and full compliance within England Golf regulations.
1. Submitting a General Play Card – Watch the How-To Video
To support members in correctly submitting a general play card, we’ve shared a short instructional video on how to do so using the iG app on your phone. If you're unsure about the process, we strongly recommend watching it before your next round. This also includes details of how to correctly submit an online attestation for a score too.
If you would rather use the electronic tablet by reception to register your intent, you simply have to login > click ‘Register’ next to general play score > select tees > select format (medal/stableford) > logout. When you’ve finish your round, please return to the tablet > login > enter score next to general play score > leave scorecard in box by reception (please ensure you check your card is filled out correctly before submitting!)

2. Declaration of Intent – Must Be Made Before You Tee Off
Please remember….
You must declare intent before your round and submit the score afterwards, regardless of how your round went. The only exception to this is if certain circumstances prevented you from doing so – see point 3. These are not ‘our rules’, they are the rules of golf and must be strictly followed
If you forgot to declare intent beforehand, you cannot retrospectively do this or submit a score after your round. Please note we now have access to reports that highlight this (and the times when scores where inputted). Penalty scores will be applied as/when necessary, by the competition & handicap committee.
3. Valid vs. Invalid Reasons for Abandoning a Round
It’s essential to understand what qualifies as a valid reason for not completing a general play round:
Valid Reasons Include:
Invalid Reasons Include:
Please make every effort to complete your round unless one of the legitimate reasons above applies.
4. Competition Eligibility – Know the Criteria
A reminder to carefully review Terms of Competitions & Local Rules 2025/26 especially regarding eligibility for Cups and Medals. All members are responsible for ensuring they meet the necessary criteria before entering any competition.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support. Should you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to contact us or one of our handicap & competition committee members.
